Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) Consultant – Building Safety & Compliance
Howatt Consulting is seeking an experienced and competent Fire Risk Assessor to join our growing consultancy team. We provide specialist Fire Risk Assessments (FRA), Building Safety Case Reports (BSC Reports), fire safety consultancy, and wider building compliance services across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and Higher-Risk Buildings throughout the UK.
This role is suited to an assessor with strong technical knowledge, experience producing high-quality FRA reports, and a practical understanding of current fire safety legislation and guidance.
The Role
The successful candidate will undertake Fire Risk Assessments across a varied portfolio of buildings, including:
High-rise residential buildings
Purpose-built blocks of flats
Commercial premises
Mixed-use developments
Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs)
The role will involve site inspections, report preparation, identifying fire safety risks and deficiencies, and providing practical compliance-focused recommendations to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Undertaking Type 1–4 Fire Risk Assessments
Preparing clear, technically robust FRA reports
Reviewing means of escape, compartmentation, fire doors, fire stopping, and fire safety systems
Identifying non-compliances and recommending remedial actions
Supporting wider Building Safety Case Report (BSC) and BSR compliance work where required
Liaising with managing agents, contractors, and dutyholders
Maintaining technical knowledge in line with current legislation and guidance
Essential Requirements
Minimum Level 4 qualification in Fire Risk Assessment or equivalent recognised fire safety qualification
Membership of a recognised professional body such as:
MIFSM / GIFSM
MIFireE / AIFireE
IFPO
IFE Registered Fire Risk Assessor
Demonstrable experience undertaking Fire Risk Assessments independently
Strong understanding of:
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
PAS 79 methodology
Approved Document B
Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
Building Safety Act 2022
Excellent report writing and communication skills
Full UK driving licence
Desirable Experience
Experience working within Higher-Risk Buildings
Experience undertaking compartmentation inspections or fire door inspections
Knowledge of Building Safety Case Reports and BSR expectations
Membership on the National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR)
